TLDR

  • Pick Tracy AI Interviewer when you want one focused job done well: a video interview for each applicant that starts from their CV, with a coding task you can add, and a recording, timed transcript and per-question assessment a reviewer can check. Alex's pages do not say its questions change with the resume.
  • Pick Alex when you want one vendor for outreach, interviewing, identity checks and scheduling, or when candidates need phone, SMS or WhatsApp.

Fact-checked on 3 Nov 2026 against the vendors' own pages (see Sources).

You may have found Alex under its old name. Apriora Inc. does business as Alex, and apriora.ai now redirects to alex.com. This page compares Tracy with Alex as it is described on alex.com today. Apriora in a search result and Alex on the site are the same product.

Where does Alex win?

Alex is the wider product, and for several buyers that settles it.

Channels and languages. Alex runs interviews over video, phone, SMS and WhatsApp. Its phone page says "No webcams, apps, or internet required." If your candidates are on shifts, in markets where WhatsApp is the default, or hiring across many languages, Tracy's browser video interview will not reach them the way Alex does. Alex states 26+ to 30+ languages across its own pages (26+ in the text of its platform page, a counter of 30 on the same page, 30+ in its llms.txt); Tracy runs each interview in one language, chosen at setup.

Proof that the person is the person. Alex's Identity layer asks for a government-issued ID and a live selfie during the interview. Its Verify layer scores each application for fraud risk and puts it in a low, medium or high band. Tracy's pages describe neither an ID check nor an application fraud score. Its signals start when the interview does.

The work around the interview. Alex's Coordinator books qualified candidates onto team calendars right after the AI screen, and Talent Match re-contacts past applicants who are already in your ATS. Tracy's pages describe the interview, the invitations and the result. They do not describe calendar scheduling or sourcing.

ATS depth and procurement evidence. Alex lists 33+ official ATS integrations, with Workday, iCIMS, Greenhouse, Lever and SmartRecruiters among them. Its platform page states SOC 2 Type II plus ISO 27001, ISO 42001, and a SOC 2 report available under NDA. With Workable, Tracy runs beside Workable's own connector inside Claude or ChatGPT and keeps results in Tracy, so a team that wants results written back to the candidate record should look at Alex first.

Technical interviews by conversation. Alex's blog, in a post dated 16 Nov 2025, says it "conducts technical question interviews with contextual follow-ups that assess coding knowledge through conversational dialogue," covering implementation approaches, edge cases and system design. If you want coding knowledge assessed by talking it through, Alex describes that directly.

Track record. Alex raised $20M, including a $17M Series A led by Peak XV Partners announced on 29 September 2025, and its llms.txt file says 1,000,000+ candidates interviewed. Tracy's home page says 100K+ interviews completed. Both are company figures.

Where does Tracy win?

Every applicant interviewed, whenever they click. Each Tracy interview is its own session, started when the candidate clicks the link and ready in under 10 seconds, with no recruiter and no calendar in the loop. A candidate who drops can rejoin within 10 minutes, and a reminder goes out after a day for an unfinished interview. Alex also interviews around the clock, so on volume alone the two are level; what differs is what each interview holds and where it runs.

An interview built from the CV and the role. With CV check on, Tracy adds 3 to 5 questions from each CV and the job's must-haves, on top of the questions it generates from the job description, which you can edit or replace with your own. Two applicants for one role do not get the same script. Alex describes its Interview Guide and a separate Resume Screens product; the pages we checked do not say that the interview questions change with each candidate's resume, so ask.

Evidence behind each result. Tracy records both sides and anchors a transcript with timestamps to the recording, then writes an assessment for every question with its reasoning, so a reviewer can check each point against what was said. As the Tracy home page puts it, you read the words, then you decide. Alex's pages describe transcripts, role-fit scores, fraud flags and an audit trail for every interview. Its Proctor page says a flag opens to the timestamps and the transcript behind it, but we found no statement that a role-fit score links back to a passage. If that link matters to your reviewers, ask Alex to show you one finished report and trace a score to the answer behind it. Run the same test on Tracy. See what reviewers should see in an AI interview report.

Follow-ups in the person's own field. Both tools ask follow-ups. Tracy's follow-up depends on the answer before it, so a vague answer gets a sharper question, and it waits for the end of a thought (up to about 2 seconds on hard technical questions) rather than cutting the person off, and its home page says it can introduce a coding task and probe the trade-offs behind an answer. Alex describes follow-ups guided by its Interview Guide, and its blog says it assesses coding knowledge through conversational dialogue. Both list coding: Alex says so in its launch post and blog, and Tracy can introduce a coding task and probe the trade-offs. For engineering or expert screens, give both the same brief and compare the second question. The guide to AI technical interviews has a task you can use.

Fits the stack. Tracy connects through an API and an MCP server, so a customer's own system can request an interview and hand the candidate a link, and enterprise teams can ask for a customised setup. Alex's 33+ official ATS integrations go deeper on write-back, as above.

Starting without a call. Tracy needs no card to start. The people you interview install nothing. Alex's route in is a 30-minute demo, and its pages state no free trial.

Integrity checks are not a Tracy win. Tracy captures signals during the interview, assesses them together afterwards and gives the evidence to the reviewer beside the assessment. Tracy's home page lists tab changes and fullscreen, face and gaze, and timing and screens, such as a long delay before an answer or an external screen. They are signals, not a verdict, and they point to moments worth a look in the recording. Alex's Proctor also reads signals such as a second voice, off-screen glances and tab switching, rates the likelihood of assistance, and Identity adds an ID check. Alex's flags do not decide the outcome either; the team configures how a flagged interview is handled. Our guide to AI interview cheating detection covers what to ask any vendor.

How does pricing compare?

Tracy: the first 3 results are free. After that a result costs 1 credit for every started 20 minutes, at $7 per credit. Credits never expire.

Alex: the pricing page leads to a form for a 30-minute demo, and the ROI page says Alex is "priced against headcount, not software." Its blog is where a number appears: a post dated 19 Feb 2026 says "Alex pricing starts at $36K annually for staffing firms, with custom enterprise pricing based on volume, integrations, and deployment complexity." We found no per-interview price, plan tiers or free trial published. The $36K is a yearly contract and Tracy's $7 is one credit, so the two do not line up until you have a quote. Alex (formerly Apriora) pricing lists what to ask for in a quote, and AI interview cost per candidate puts published prices across the category on one scale.

Which should your team choose?

Choose Alex when:

  • candidates need WhatsApp, SMS or phone interviews, or you hire across many languages;
  • you require government ID and live selfie checks, or an application fraud-risk score;
  • you want outreach, interviewing and scheduling from one vendor;
  • procurement needs SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001 and ISO 42001 evidence.

Choose Tracy AI Interviewer when:

  • you want every applicant interviewed in depth, at any hour, with no scheduling;
  • the questions should follow each candidate's CV and answers, including a coding task;
  • your reviewers want a recording, transcript, written reasoning per question and integrity signals to check;
  • you want to try an interview this week without a sales call, paying per result.

If it is close, run one real first-round brief through both and read the two reports side by side. Weighing more than two options? Alex (formerly Apriora) alternatives sets Tracy beside five others. For the wider market, see the best AI interview software for hiring teams.

Questions

Are Alex and Apriora the same product?
Yes. The legal entity is Apriora Inc., which does business as Alex. The product and brand are now Alex, and apriora.ai redirects to alex.com.
What is the main difference between Tracy and Alex?
Alex describes itself as an AI recruiter that handles outreach, screening, interviewing, verification and scheduling. Tracy AI Interviewer does one job: it runs a two-way video interview and writes an assessment for each question with its reasoning, next to the recording and transcript.
Does Alex publish its pricing?
Not on its pricing page, which leads to a form for a 30-minute demo. Its blog says annual contracts start at $36K, for staffing firms in the 19 Feb and 2 Mar 2026 posts; a 17 Feb post names no buyer type. We found no plan tiers or free trial. Tracy publishes its price on its pricing page: the first 3 results are free, then $7 per credit. The units differ, so a like-for-like comparison needs an Alex quote.
Which has stronger cheating and fraud checks?
Alex lists three layers: Verify for application fraud risk, Proctor for help during the interview, and Identity, which checks a government ID against a live selfie. Tracy shows signals on video interviews as moments worth a look in the recording, not a verdict, and its pages describe no ID check. If identity proof is a requirement, Alex is the stronger fit.
Can either tool make the hiring decision?
No. Tracy says it does not reject anyone and a person decides. Alex says no candidate is auto-rejected and hiring teams can override its outputs.
