By Qode Product Team · Updated 2 Nov 2026

TLDR

  • Best for skilled and technical first-round hiring among the eight tools reviewed: Tracy AI Interviewer. It interviews every applicant, probes vague answers and lets reviewers check each score against the candidate's own words.
  • Tracy meets all four criteria in our comparison: adaptive depth, scale, stack fit and evidence-backed scores.
  • Choose HireVue for a full enterprise suite or FedRAMP, CodeSignal for a test-first technical workflow, and Ribbon for hourly roles.

What should hiring teams look for in the best AI interview software?

AI-written applications now read alike, so the CV no longer separates the engineer who built the system from the one who described it well. The interview has to do that, for every applicant, before a hiring manager spends an hour on a call. We judged each tool on four things:

  1. Interviews like your best expert. Does it ask the follow-up that gets to the real story, in the candidate's own field?
  2. Thousands of interviews, zero new hires. Can every applicant take it without anyone scheduling it?
  3. Work with your stack. Does it fit the tools you run, with your own questions?
  4. Every score, traced to the answer. Can the reviewer check a score against what the candidate said, and does a person decide?

Why is Tracy the best AI interview software for skilled roles?

Tracy follows up on vague answers and digs into the interesting ones, "a real follow-up, not a rigid script", so a rehearsed or AI-fed first answer doesn't carry a candidate through. It can "introduce a coding task, and probe the trade-offs behind an answer", so you see how an engineer reasons about their own code. Our guide to AI technical interviews shows a full session.

Example: a Tracy follow-up chain for a data analyst. An illustration with test data, not a real candidate.

  1. Tracy: Tell me about a dataset you cleaned that changed a decision.
  2. Candidate: Churn data for a subscription product. About 8% of rows had missing cancel dates, so I dropped them.
  3. Tracy: Who were those 8%? Were they missing at random?
  4. Candidate: No. Most were annual plans that hadn't renewed yet. Dropping them made churn look higher.
  5. Tracy: What did you do instead, and how did the number change?
  6. Candidate: I treated them as still active until their renewal date. Monthly churn went from 6.1% to 4.8%, and the team stopped a discount campaign.

The second answer passes most checklists. The fourth and sixth show the analyst understands bias in missing data and can tie it to a business decision.

A Tracy interview result for a customer support lead. Four fields, such as handling escalations and start date, each show the candidate's own words and a timestamp. The recording and transcript sit beside them, with Invite to next round and Not now buttons.
Every point in a Tracy report is the candidate's own words, next to the recording and transcript (illustration with sample data).

Each report has a summary with "the participant's own words attached" and direct quotes for context, plus the interview video, transcript and chapter breakdown. The AI explains each answer score, so a hiring manager can check it against the answer before deciding. Tracy's interview integrity detection flags tab changes, abnormal eye tracking, live face detection, average delay before an answer, external screens and other unusual patterns, so a suspicious session gets a second look. See how to spot AI cheating in interviews.

Candidates join in their browser with no sign-up, "whenever it suits them", so you can screen every candidate in depth without adding interviewers, and candidates rate Tracy 4.7 out of 5 on average. Tracy works inside tools your team already uses, such as Slack and Workable. The price is $7 per credit; one credit covers up to 20 minutes. You pay for results, not seats, and a session with no answers is never charged. At high volume, enterprise pricing is custom, based on your volume, as low as $1 per credit.

How do the 8 best AI interview tools compare?

Grid of 8 AI interview tools marked yes, partly, no or not stated on four pillars. Tracy AI Interviewer, in the first row, is the only tool marked yes on all four.
Tracy is the only tool here marked yes on all four pillars. Marks are our reading of each vendor's own pages, 29 Oct 2026.

Which of the other AI interview tools fits your team?

2. HireVue

HireVue's AI Interviewer runs voice interviews with "probing follow-up questions", scores skill answers on a "Custom 1-5 rubric", and puts scores in your ATS. The reviewer gets a score that "explains why". Around it sit assessments, one-way video and live interviews. It holds ISO/IEC 27001:2022 and FedRAMP authorization, and doesn't publish prices (see what HireVue costs).

Choose HireVue for one vendor from application to offer, or for US government work. If you need the interview step done in depth beside your suite, Tracy fits there. Read Tracy vs HireVue, or HireVue alternatives if you're leaving it.

3. CodeSignal

CodeSignal's AI interviewers probe "if answers are thin". The reviewer gets "an in-depth report with an overall score, skill evaluation, and key insights", with "cheating & fraud flags". The Build plan is $79 a month billed annually (60 annual credits) or $99 billed monthly (5 monthly credits), shared with its assessments.

It's the natural pick if your engineers already run CodeSignal assessments. If you want the coding task inside a conversation that asks about trade-offs, Tracy does that.

4. HeyMilo

HeyMilo interviews "with structured AI voice, video, SMS, and forms", "24/7 in 20+ languages". Its reviewer gets "a scored candidate report with per-question rationale", and HeyMilo provides "a trust score that indicates the likelihood of cheating". Pricing isn't published.

HeyMilo suits teams hiring in many languages or running SMS screens. For skilled roles where the follow-up decides, Tracy goes deeper. Agencies should also read AI interview tools for staffing agencies.

5. Talview

Talview's interviewer runs "conversational screening with real-time follow-ups", and "every score shows response behind it". It adds "continuous liveness and face match", a "secondary-camera view of the desk and the room" and a "secure browser with code jams, whiteboarding and structured evaluations". Pricing is unit-based, with "a minimum commitment of approximately 150 to 200 candidates".

Talview fits proctored, high-stakes tests. If you want pay-per-result pricing with no minimum, Tracy charges only for interviews that produce answers.

6. Sapia.ai

Sapia.ai prices "on a per-hire basis", and is "designed to best serve companies that hire more than 500 people per year." Its pages didn't describe what the reviewer sees.

Sapia.ai fits large employers that want cost tied to hires. Smaller skilled teams get a published price with Tracy.

7. Ribbon

Ribbon "screens, interviews and ranks candidates for warehouse, retail, hospitality and healthcare roles" by voice, on "any phone, in 10 languages", and "syncs with 60+ ATS". Reviewers get "live interview captions and recordings". Pricing is $499 a month for 100 interviews, billed annually, per Ribbon's own comparison page; its pricing page didn't load on 29 Oct 2026.

Ribbon is built for hourly hiring by phone. For engineers, analysts and specialists, Tracy's follow-ups fit better.

8. Spark Hire

Spark Hire includes "unlimited live and one-way video interviews" from $249 a month billed annually, and lists "40+ ATS integrations". A one-way video has no follow-up, so the reviewer watches each recording.

Spark Hire suits teams that want to watch every candidate themselves. If you'd rather read answers with follow-ups already asked, Tracy saves that viewing time.

How did we rank them?

We selected eight tools covering conversational interviews, technical assessments, full hiring suites and one-way video. We read each vendor's own product and pricing pages on 29 Oct 2026 and took every fact from them. For skilled roles we prioritized depth of follow-up, then evidence behind scores, scale and stack fit. Price transparency helped distinguish otherwise similar options; HireVue ranks above CodeSignal because it combines a conversational interviewer with a broader hiring suite. These categories serve different buyers, so use each tool's best-for description before comparing rank. We make Tracy and did not run hands-on tests of rival interviews.

For expert vetting, the same test applies; see our interview questions for AI trainers and domain experts.

Questions

What is the best AI interviewer for technical roles? We rank Tracy first, because it follows up on vague answers and can probe the trade-offs behind a coding task. CodeSignal is the pick if your team already runs its assessments.

How much does an AI interview platform cost? Tracy, CodeSignal and Spark Hire publish prices, and Ribbon states one on its own blog. HireVue, HeyMilo, Talview and Sapia.ai quote on request.

Which AI interview tools for recruiters work with an ATS? HireVue puts scores in the ATS, HeyMilo names seven ATS platforms, Ribbon says 60+ and Spark Hire 40+. Tracy works inside named tools, including Workable and HubSpot.

Do AI interview tools detect cheating? Several flag it. Tracy flags tab changes, abnormal eye tracking, live face detection, average delay before an answer, external screens and other unusual patterns. HeyMilo, Talview, CodeSignal and HireVue also describe cheating or fraud features. A person should review any flag.

Who makes the hiring decision? Your team does. A Tracy report gives each answer a score that the AI explains, with the candidate's own words attached, and your reviewer chooses who goes to the next round. HireVue says "Recruiters always make the final call." Tell applicants an AI runs the interview and that a person decides.

Is a one-way video tool enough? It is if your team wants to watch every recording. If you need follow-up questions, choose a tool that runs a two-way interview.
