TLDR
- If Alex's funnel is wider than your hiring needs, start with Tracy AI Interviewer: it interviews everyone who applies on click, can read the CV to tailor its questions, and hands the reviewer a recording, timed transcript and written assessment per question.
- If you want a bigger suite, look at Ribbon or HeyMilo. For enterprise governance, HireVue. For text on any phone, Sapia.ai. For a small team on a published price, Spark Hire.

Alex is the new name of Apriora: Apriora Inc. does business as Alex, and apriora.ai redirects to alex.com. This page lists six tools to weigh against it, Tracy first because we make it, with what each does well and when to pick it instead.
Why do teams look beyond Alex?
We did not cite buyer reviews of Alex (its platform page claims a G2 ranking, which we could not check), so these reasons come from Alex's own pages and from what they do not say.
- Price. The pricing page is a form for a 30-minute demo, and we found no per-interview price, plan tiers or free trial. Alex's own blog says annual contracts start at $36K (stated for staffing firms in its 19 Feb and 2 Mar 2026 posts). See Alex (formerly Apriora) pricing.
- A wider tool than some teams want. Alex describes itself as an AI recruiter for outreach, screening, interviewing, verification and scheduling. A team that only needs the interview is buying a suite.
- Evidence wording. Alex's pages describe transcripts, role-fit scores, fraud flags and an audit trail. Its Proctor flags open to timestamps and the transcript, but we found no statement that a role-fit score links to the passage behind it.
- Coding. Alex lists coding: its YC launch post names coding among its interview types, and its blog says it assesses coding knowledge through conversational dialogue (16 Nov 2025). Tracy can introduce a coding task and probe the trade-offs.
Alex is strong where these do not matter: four channels (video, phone, SMS, WhatsApp), 33+ ATS integrations, an ID check and SOC 2 Type II plus ISO 27001. Tracy vs Alex (formerly Apriora) covers where it wins.
The six, with who each is for
| Tool | Best for |
|---|---|
| Tracy AI Interviewer | Every applicant interviewed in depth, with CV-tailored questions, follow-ups and evidence for a reviewer |
| HeyMilo | High-volume screening across voice, video, SMS and forms, written back to the ATS |
| HireVue | Enterprise teams that need governance and one suite from engagement to interview |
| Sapia.ai | Large employers screening by text chat on any phone |
| Spark Hire | Small teams that want recorded video interviews on a published price |
| Ribbon | Teams that want sourcing, outreach and a first interview in one tool |
1. Tracy AI Interviewer
Tracy runs a two-way video interview in the browser. The people you interview install nothing, and every applicant is interviewed on their own when they click the link, at any hour, with no scheduling. With CV check on, Tracy adds 3 to 5 questions from each CV and the role's must-haves.
Each follow-up depends on the answer before it, and a vague answer gets a sharper question. Its home page says it can introduce a coding task and probe the trade-offs behind an answer, and you can edit the drafted questions or bring your own. Each result carries the recording, a transcript timed to it, a written assessment per question with its reasoning and integrity signals (tab changes, gaze, response timing, an external screen) with their evidence. Interviews can start from an invitation link, an apply page or a customer's own system through the API, the MCP server connects Tracy to chat tools such as Claude and ChatGPT, and enterprise teams can ask for a customised setup.
Price: The first 3 results are free. Then $7 per credit, with 1 credit for each started 20 minutes. You pay for results, not seats, and a session with no answers is never charged.
Pick Tracy if you want every applicant interviewed in depth, the depth of the second question matters more than the number of channels, or your reviewers need a recording, transcript and written reasoning to check each result. You can also start without a sales call. Pick something else if you need phone, SMS or WhatsApp interviews, scheduling, sourcing or results written back to your ATS; the pages we checked describe none of these for Tracy.
2. HeyMilo
HeyMilo screens and interviews applicants over voice, video, SMS and forms, in 20+ languages. It asks follow-ups in real time, and the recruiter sets the maximum number of follow-ups per question. Reports carry per-question scores with the rationale and candidate quotes with timestamps. It lists 20+ ATS partners. HeyMilo's product pages describe no coding interview.
Price: No public price. Its pricing page redirects to a book-a-demo form, and its billing docs say plan options and pricing appear in the product once billing is set up for a workspace.
Pick HeyMilo if you hire at volume and want SMS, forms and a phone or video screen in one flow with ATS sync. See Tracy vs HeyMilo and HeyMilo alternatives.
3. HireVue
HireVue offers on-demand video and live interviews, plus an AI interviewer whose agents ask and record responses, including probing follow-up questions, in a two-way conversation. The AI evaluates each response against role-specific criteria and explains why. HireVue also lists more than 200 coding skills assessments. Its tagline for the AI is "AI Informs. Humans decide."
Price: No price on its pricing page, which points to a plan conversation.
Pick HireVue if you are an enterprise or mid-market team that wants audits, governance and live, on-demand and AI interviews in one suite. See Tracy vs HireVue and HireVue alternatives.
4. Sapia.ai
Sapia.ai interviews by text chat only: its page says "No video, no voice, no face." It says every score is traceable to a candidate's own words, and says it is independently audited for bias with the results published. It says it has assessed 10M+ candidates and has built AI interviews since 2018. Those figures are Sapia's. Its pages do not state follow-up questions or technical tasks.
Price: None published. Pricing is per hire at a tailored rate, and Sapia says its technology is designed for companies that hire more than 500 people per year.
Pick Sapia.ai if you hire frontline or professional volume, want a text-based screen that works on any phone and have the hiring volume its model assumes.
5. Spark Hire
Spark Hire is built on one-way recorded video and live video interviews. Every candidate answers the same questions, and responses are AI-summarized for reviewers. It lists no AI follow-up questions, and it says it is not designed for teams that want to fully automate screening or remove human judgment.
Price: from $249 per month billed annually for unlimited live and one-way video interviews, jobs and users. Pricing varies by company size.
Pick Spark Hire if you are a small team that wants to replace phone screens with recorded video, at a price on the page, with a person reviewing every answer. Read one-way vs two-way video interviews for what a recording cannot ask.
6. Ribbon
Ribbon runs structured voice and video interviews, and describes real two-way conversations that adapt in real time. Its scorecard sits beside the recording and transcript, so recruiters can jump to the answer behind a recommendation. It also covers AI sourcing, talent rediscovery in the existing ATS and outreach by SMS, WhatsApp and email.
Price: Ribbon's pricing page returned a 404 on 3 Nov 2026. Its blog, dated 23 Aug 2026, says annual-billing packages start at $499 per month for 100 interviews, and its integrations page mentions a 7-day free trial. Confirm both before relying on them.
Also: on 23 Oct 2026 Dayforce announced a signed agreement to acquire Ribbon. The release refers to what follows the close of the transaction.
Pick Ribbon if you want sourcing, outreach and a first interview in one tool. See Tracy vs Ribbon and Ribbon alternatives.

How to choose
Start from what you are leaving Alex for. If it is price, shortlist the tools with a number on the page: Tracy and Spark Hire publish one, and Ribbon has one in a blog. If it is breadth, Ribbon and HeyMilo are suites. If it is governance, HireVue. If it is depth in a technical or expert interview, run the same brief through Tracy and one other tool and compare the second question each asks. AI interview cost per candidate puts published prices on one scale, and the best AI interview software for hiring teams ranks the wider market.
