Facts checked on 3 Nov 2026 against each vendor's own pages (see Sources). We did not use review sites for this list, so the reasons for leaving HeyMilo come from its own pages, not from buyer reviews.
TLDR
- Tracy AI Interviewer is the pick if HeyMilo's multi-step funnel is more than you need: it interviews everyone who applies on video, answers a vague reply with a sharper question and hands a reviewer the recording and integrity signals to check.
- Stay with HeyMilo when you want a wide funnel with SMS, forms, scheduling and ATS write-back, all of which it lists. Look at Alex for multi-channel interviews (video, phone, SMS, WhatsApp) and calendar coordination, or Ribbon for sourcing and outreach around the interview.
- HireVue suits enterprise governance, Sapia.ai text-first volume hiring and Spark Hire a low-cost recorded video screen.
HeyMilo is a capable screening funnel, and many teams are right to stay on it. This page lists six alternatives, Tracy first because we make it, each judged on the same questions: how the interview runs, whether it follows up, what it costs in public, and when you should pick it instead.
Why do teams look beyond HeyMilo?
From HeyMilo's own pages, three reasons stand out.
No public price
HeyMilo's pricing page for its screening and interview platform leads to a demo form, and its documentation says plan options and prices appear once billing is set up for your workspace. Its separate proctoring product, HeyMilo Red, does publish prices (Free $0, Growth $59 a month, priced by minutes of recorded video analysed), but that is not the price of running an interview. Teams that need a number to put in a budget have to book a call first. Our HeyMilo pricing page goes through what is and is not public.
Follow-ups bound by a rubric
HeyMilo lets the recruiter set how many follow-ups the AI can ask, and in its comparison with Alex it writes that follow-up questions can only come from the scoring rubric. That keeps screening consistent. It also means a follow-up that is not in the rubric does not get asked, which matters when a technical answer needs a question nobody wrote in advance.
A different shape of tool
HeyMilo is built around a high-volume funnel across voice, video, SMS and forms. Teams that want one deep interview, a text-only screen or a recorded video are shopping for something else. Working inside the ATS is a HeyMilo strength, not a reason to leave: its own pages list an embedded widget in Bullhorn, Greenhouse, Lever and Ashby and 20+ ATS partners.
Quick list: which alternative for which team?
| Alternative | Best for |
|---|---|
| Tracy AI Interviewer | Teams that want every applicant interviewed in depth, with CV-tailored questions, follow-ups and evidence for a reviewer |
| Alex (formerly Apriora) | A full recruiting workflow with video, phone, SMS and WhatsApp interviews and identity checks |
| HireVue | Enterprise talent teams that need governance, audit trails and one suite |
| Sapia.ai | Large employers hiring 500+ people a year who want a text-based screen |
| Spark Hire | Small and mid-size teams that want recorded video interviews at a published price |
| Ribbon | Teams that want sourcing, outreach and a first-round interview in one tool |
1. Tracy AI Interviewer
Tracy runs a two-way video interview from a link, with no install for the person being interviewed. Every applicant is interviewed on their own when they click the link, at any hour and with no scheduling, so hundreds of applicants for one role need no extra recruiter time. With CV check on, Tracy adds 3 to 5 questions from each CV and the role's must-haves. Each follow-up depends on the answer before it, a vague answer gets a sharper question, and for technical roles Tracy can introduce a coding task and probe the trade-offs behind an answer. You can edit the drafted questions or bring your own.
Each result carries a recording, a transcript with timestamps, a written assessment for each question with its reasoning, and integrity signals (tab changes, gaze, response timing, an external screen) with their evidence, for a person to review. Interviews can start from an invitation link, an apply page or a customer's own system through the API, the MCP server connects Tracy to chat tools such as Claude and ChatGPT, and enterprise teams can ask for a customised setup.
Price: $7 per credit, one credit for each started 20 minutes of a session that produces a result. The first 3 results are free, there are no seats, and a session with no answers is never charged.
Pick it if you want every applicant interviewed in depth, the roles are skilled or technical and the follow-up question is where you learn the most, or you want to budget before a sales call. Look elsewhere if you need SMS, phone or form steps, calendar scheduling or results written back into an ATS; the pages we checked describe none of these for Tracy. For the full comparison, read Tracy vs HeyMilo.
2. Alex (formerly Apriora)
Alex covers a wider recruiting workflow. Apriora Inc. does business as Alex, and apriora.ai now redirects to alex.com. Alex runs two-way interviews over video, phone, SMS and WhatsApp, and asks follow-ups based on what the candidate says, guided by an Interview Guide. A coordinator books qualified candidates on team calendars. Its fraud layers cover application risk, assistance during the interview, and identity through a government ID plus a live selfie. Its platform page lists 33+ supported ATS integrations and SOC 2 Type II plus ISO 27001.
Price: the pricing page leads to a 30-minute demo form. Alex's own blog says its pricing starts at $36K annually for staffing firms (19 Feb and 2 Mar 2026 posts; a 17 Feb post gives the same $36K start without naming a buyer type), a vendor statement.
Pick it if candidates need WhatsApp or SMS interviews, you hire across many languages, or identity proof is a requirement. Our Tracy vs Alex comparison and Alex alternatives pages go further.
3. HireVue
HireVue is strongest on governance at enterprise scale. It offers on-demand and live video interviews and an AI interviewer that asks probing follow-up questions in a two-way conversation. It says every score ties back to evidence from the interview and your competency rubric. It also lists more than 200 on-demand coding skills assessments, and states an annual SOC 2 Type 2 audit and adverse impact testing before models go live.
Price: no published price. The pricing page points to a conversation about plans.
Pick it if you are an enterprise talent team that needs audit trails, validated science and one suite from engagement to interview. See Tracy vs HireVue, HireVue alternatives and HireVue pricing for the detail.
4. Sapia.ai
Sapia.ai is built around text. It describes a structured, text-based AI interview that every applicant can finish on their phone, in their own time, with no video, no voice and no face. It says the interview is untimed, that every score is traceable to the candidate's own words, and that its scoring is independently audited for bias and published. It states SOC 2 Type 2.
Price: none published. Sapia.ai says customers pay only for the people they hire, at a tailored cost-per-hire rate, and that its technology is designed for companies that hire more than 500 people a year.
Pick it if you hire frontline or professional roles at volume, want applicants to answer by text, and prefer to pay per hire. Its pages we checked do not state whether it asks follow-up questions or runs technical tasks, so test both.
5. Spark Hire
Spark Hire sells recorded video at a price you can read. Its video interviewing plan starts from $249 a month billed annually, with unlimited live and one-way video interviews, jobs and users; month-to-month starts at $299 with up to 5 jobs and 5 users; the page says pricing varies by company size. Plans that add an ATS, Recruit Pro and Recruit Growth, start from $335 and $499 a month billed annually, and Recruit plans are annual contracts only. Candidates record answers on their own schedule, responses are transcribed in 50+ languages, and reviewers get an AI summary of each response. Spark Hire lists 40+ ATS integrations and a SOC 2 Type II audit on request.
Pick it if you are a lean HR team that wants to replace phone screens with recorded video and keep people deciding. Spark Hire says that every candidate answers the same questions under the same conditions, so in its one-way format it is a fixed set of questions with no AI follow-up. It says it is not for teams that want to fully automate screening.
6. Ribbon
Ribbon covers the work around the interview. It lists AI sourcing, talent rediscovery in your ATS, outreach by SMS, WhatsApp and email, and structured voice and video interviews in 10+ languages that follow up when an answer needs more detail. It lists 60+ integrations and a 7-day free trial, and says a first interview can be live within minutes.
Price: Ribbon's pricing page returned a 404 when we checked. Its own blog, dated 23 Aug 2026, says public annual-billing packages start at $499 a month for 100 interviews, which we could not confirm on a live pricing page.
Note: on 23 October 2026 Dayforce announced a signed agreement to acquire Ribbon. The deal had not closed in that release.
Pick it if sourcing and outreach belong in the same purchase as the interview. See Tracy vs Ribbon and Ribbon alternatives.

How do you choose?
Start from the job.
- If you want every applicant interviewed in depth and the second question matters, put Tracy first and test it on a real brief. Check the next question the interviewer asks after a vague answer.
- If you screen high volume across several channels, compare Alex, Ribbon and HeyMilo on ATS write-back, languages and scheduling, and ask each for a written quote.
- If procurement needs governance depth, start with HireVue and Alex, and ask every vendor for its security documents.
- If candidates are on phones with weak connections, Sapia.ai's text format removes the camera. Alex's phone and WhatsApp interviews do too.
- If budget is the constraint and you only need recorded answers, Spark Hire's published price is the easiest to plan around.
Whatever you shortlist, run the same role through two tools. Include a plausible answer that leaves out a constraint, a candidate who needs another format and a result you disagree with.
