What does Tracy cost next to HireVue pricing?
HireVue pricing is sold by quote, on an annual contract. Tracy AI Interviewer publishes its price: $7 per credit; one credit covers up to 20 minutes. You pay for results, not seats. A session with no answers is never charged, so applicants who don't show up cost nothing. Credits never expire, so a quiet quarter doesn't waste budget.
Here is what that means at the volumes a skilled-hiring team runs, with each interview at 20 minutes or less.
| Interviews a year | Tracy at list price |
|---|---|
| 1,000 | $7,000 |
| 2,500 | $17,500 |
| 5,000 | $35,000 |
At 5,000 interviews a year, list price passes HireVue's reported median. Enterprise pricing is custom, based on your volume, as low as $1 per credit, so a team at that scale should ask for a quote before comparing.
Thousands of interviews, zero new hires. People join in their browser with no sign-up, whenever it suits them, so you can interview every applicant in depth during a hiring spike without adding a recruiter. For skilled and technical roles, where AI-written applications look alike, that lets you stop picking the shortlist from CVs alone. Candidates rate Tracy 4.7 out of 5 on average, so the extra interview doesn't turn good applicants away. Our guide on how to screen every candidate in depth shows how teams set it up.
What does a Tracy interview give you for the money?
You're paying to learn how the candidate did the work. Tracy runs natural two-way video interviews and follows up on vague answers, so a rehearsed first answer is followed by a question about what the person did. Each interview becomes a summary with "the participant's own words attached" and direct quotes for context, and the AI explains each answer score, so a reviewer can check the score against what was said.

Example: part of a Tracy report for a data engineer. It's an illustration with test data, not a real candidate.
| Field | What the candidate said |
|---|---|
| Pipeline design | "We moved the nightly batch to streaming because finance needed numbers by 9am." |
| Follow-up: why not a faster batch? | "The source system locked tables during the run, so a faster job still waited on the lock." |
| Follow-up: what broke? | "Late events. We added a two-hour window and a daily reconciliation job." |
The first answer could come from a good CV. The two follow-ups show whether the person did the work. For engineers, Tracy can "introduce a coding task, and probe the trade-offs behind an answer", so your senior engineers spend their hour only on people who can reason about code; AI technical interviews walks through one. Each interview reports integrity signals (tab changes, abnormal eye tracking, live face detection, average delay before an answer, external screens and other unusual patterns), so a reviewer can check that the person who passed did it alone.
What is the real HireVue cost per year?
HireVue's pricing page says the platform is built "from mid-market to enterprise" and offers a demo and an ROI calculator, with no figures. The numbers below come from buyers who shared what they paid.
| What it measures | Figure | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Marketplace median | $20,900 a year | Vendr marketplace |
| Marketplace low and high | $9,794 to $41,056 a year | Vendr marketplace |
| Buyer guide average | $49,855 (5 deals, 3 buyers) | Vendr buyer guide |
| Buyer guide maximum | about $145,000 | Vendr buyer guide |
| Essentials package starting point | about $35,000 a year | Willo's HireVue review (Willo is a HireVue rival) |
| Renewal | auto-renews, 60 days' notice to opt out | Vendr buyer note |
The samples are small. The buyer guide rests on 5 deals, and the marketplace page shows no sample size. Sources also disagree: one cost site lists a median of $124,927 "across 5 Vendr purchases", six times Vendr's own marketplace median. Read $20,900 as a rough midpoint. The $145,000 comes from the buyer guide and sits well above the marketplace high of $41,056.
Why is HireVue pricing not public?
HireVue sells a suite, and each contract is built from modules. Its site lists Match and Apply, AI Interviewer, Assessment Builder, Assessments, Video Interviewing, and Cheating + Fraud Mitigation. Vendr lists three packages (HireVue: Essential, HireVue: Enterprise and HireVue: Premium) with no price for any of them. When the modules, roles and support level all move the total, a quote is the normal way to sell. Willo's review notes that "Teams report widely varying final costs for similar configurations."
Ask about three costs before you sign:
- Implementation. One cost site says "HireVue implementation is not included in the license cost." Get the setup fee in writing.
- Volume limits. Ask how many interviews the contract covers and what one more costs.
- Renewal. Put the 60-day notice date in your calendar the day you sign.
What does HireVue's AI Interviewer add for the price?
Part of what a HireVue contract pays for is the AI Interviewer and the research behind it. HireVue's launch announcement in June 2026 described "dynamic, two-way voice interviews with every applicant 24/7". Its product page says the agents ask "probing follow-up questions" and score answers on one of three formats: "Meets or Does Not Meet", a "Custom 1-5 rubric", or "Hirevue validated competencies". HireVue reports "1,300+ Validation studies for construct validity", and recruiters "view scores in the ATS".
That suits roles with clear right answers and teams that want a score in their ATS. Tracy suits roles where you need to hear how the person reasons. The contract also carries credentials not every buyer needs, such as FedRAMP authorization.
How many Tracy interviews does a HireVue budget buy?
At the $7 list price, with each interview at 20 minutes or less:
| HireVue figure (reported) | Annual cost | Tracy interviews it would pay for |
|---|---|---|
| Marketplace low | $9,794 | 1,399 |
| Marketplace median | $20,900 | 2,985 |
| Buyer guide average | $49,855 | 7,122 |
| Buyer guide maximum | about $145,000 | 20,714 |
Example: a team hires 40 engineers and specialists a year and interviews 50 applicants per role. That's 2,000 interviews, or $14,000 a year at list price, which is $350 per hire. The same team on HireVue's median contract would pay about $523 per hire. A 30-minute interview uses two credits, so set the length to fit the role.
A HireVue contract can include assessments and live interview tools, which Tracy doesn't sell. If the AI interview is the part you need, the per-interview comparison is the one that counts. For the full feature view, see Tracy vs HireVue.
Who should pick HireVue instead?
- You hire for US federal agencies and need FedRAMP authorization.
- You want assessments, one-way video, live interviews in Zoom, Teams or Webex, and AI interviews under one contract.
- You want HireVue's validated competency scores to land in your ATS.
For everyone else, Tracy fits next to the tools you have. It works inside ChatGPT, Slack, Workable and other tools your team already uses, and it is SOC 2 Type 2 compliant, so your security review has a report to check (on request at tracy@qode.world). How do you get a HireVue quote you can compare?
Get these answers in writing:
- The annual price, split by module.
- The interviews, roles or users it covers, and the cost of going over.
- The setup fee.
- The renewal date and notice period.
- The price of the AI Interviewer on its own.
Divide the last figure by the interviews you expect to run in a year, and you have a cost per interview to set against Tracy's $7 a credit. Vendr's buyer guide lists the usual levers: a multi-year term, bundling, your growth plans and signing near the supplier's quarter end. Agencies running interviews for several clients should ask whether pricing is per client; our guide to AI interview tools for staffing agencies covers that case.
