Add Tracy at Qode to Slack
Tracy at Qode works inside Slack. Message her to check your interviews, draft one and invite people, without leaving the conversation.
What you get
Tracy joins your Slack workspace as an app, and you talk to her in a direct message, or @mention her in a channel she has been added to. A workspace is the group of people and channels you sign in to in Slack, such as your company's.
- Ask in plain words: list your interviews, see who is on one and where their results stand, or check how many free results and credits you have left.
- Ask her to draft an interview or invite people by email. She shows you a preview first, and nothing is created or sent until you press Approve.
- In a channel, @mention her with your question. She replies under your message with one short line, and sends the answer to your direct message, so the channel sees none of it.
- Type /tracy help in Slack for the commands that do the same.
What Tracy reads and posts
Tracy reads the direct messages sent to her and the channel messages that @mention her. She also sees the /tracy commands you type. In a channel she does not read other conversations, only messages that mention her.
She posts only to the person she is talking to: replies in your direct message, and answers to /tracy commands that only you can see. When you @mention her in a channel, she adds one short line under your message, and nothing else goes to the channel: not the answer, not the Connect Tracy button and not an approval preview. Apart from that line, the one other place she posts is an alerts channel, and only if you add one in the last step.
Before you start
- A Tracy at Qode account. If you are signed out, Add to Slack takes you to sign in or sign up first and then straight on to Slack.
- A Slack workspace you can add apps to. If yours asks an admin to approve new apps, ask one to approve Tracy.
- Nothing to look up in Slack: you do not search Slack's app directory for Tracy. Add to Slack starts here, on this page.
Steps
- Click Add to Slack. Slack opens and asks which workspace to add Tracy to.
- Read what Slack says Tracy will do: use slash commands, send messages as Tracy, read the direct messages sent to her and see the messages that mention her. Then click Allow.
- Slack brings you back to your account page, which says the Tracy bot was added to Slack. Adding her also links your Slack account to your Tracy at Qode account, so there is nothing more to connect. The Open Tracy in Slack button there opens Tracy's conversation in Slack.
- Open Slack and find Tracy under Apps in the sidebar. She has sent you a direct message that starts:
Hi, I'm Tracy, an AI interviewer.
She goes on to say your Slack account is connected and lists what she can do for you. - Ask her something in that conversation. Three to start with:
Which interviews do I have?
Who is on my customer success interview, and where do their results stand?
How many free results and credits do I have left?
- Optional: use her in a channel. Add her to the channel first: type /invite @Tracy in it, or open the channel's name, choose Integrations and add her from Apps. Then @mention her with your question, such as @Tracy how many credits do I have left? Under your message she replies:
I replied to you in a direct message.
The answer is in your direct message with her, and so is the Connect Tracy button if you have not connected yet. A message in the channel that does not mention her is never read. - Bring in a teammate from the same workspace. They do not add the app again. They send Tracy a direct message, and she replies with a Connect Tracy button. The link is good for 10 minutes: they open it themselves, sign in to their own Tracy at Qode account and click Link my account. Tracy then says hello to them in Slack. Ask them not to pass the link on, because it is for the person who asked for it.
- Optional: get alerts in a channel. Open your account and use the Slack alerts panel to pick one channel. Tracy posts there when someone opens an invite, starts, finishes or leaves an interview, and when a result is ready. It is separate from talking to Tracy, so skip it if you only want the conversation.
Check it worked
In your conversation with Tracy, send the first question above. She answers with your interviews, read from your Tracy at Qode account, or tells you there are none yet. Typing /tracy help works too: it shows the commands, and only you see the answer.
If it does not work
- Slack says it needs approval, or Add to Slack does not finish: ask a workspace admin to approve Tracy, then click Add to Slack again.
- You land back on your account page with a note that Tracy could not be added: click Add to Slack again. A note that the Slack bot is not set up means it is not switched on here yet.
- No message from Tracy: look for her under Apps in the sidebar, and send her any message. If she asks you to connect, use the Connect Tracy button.
- She does not answer when you @mention her in a channel: check that she was added to that channel, then ask again. If you added Tracy to Slack before she answered mentions, click Add to Slack again and Allow, which grants the new app_mentions:read permission. Whoever manages the Slack app must also subscribe it to the app_mention event, under Event Subscriptions, Subscribe to bot events, and then reinstall it.
- Her link did not work: a link lasts 10 minutes. Type /tracy connect in Slack for a new one.
